O To Be Like Thee
Great Master,
teach us with Your skillful hand;
Let not the music that is in us die!
Great Sculptor, hew and polish us;
Nor let hidden and lost,
Your form within us lie!
- Horatius Bonar -
O to be like Thee! blessèd Redeemer,
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.
O to be like Thee! full of compassion,
Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,
Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,
Seeking the wandering sinner to find.
O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit,
Holy and harmless, patient and brave;
Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,
Willing to suffer others to save.
O to be like Thee! Lord, I am coming
Now to receive anointing divine;
All that I am and have I am bringing,
Lord, from this moment all shall be Thine.
O to be like Thee! while I am pleading,
Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love;
Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,
Fit me for life and Heaven above.
Chorus
O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee,
Blessèd Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.
- Thomas O. Chisholm -
For we are his workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus unto good works,
which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
- Ephesians 2:10 -
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the LORD,
are changed into the same image from glory to glory,
even as by the Spirit of the LORD.
- 2 Corinthians 3:18 -
We are to daily "put on Christ"
- His love and character -
even as we put on our garments.
But put ye on the LORD Jesus Christ,
and make not provision for the flesh,
to fulfil the lusts thereof.
- Romans 13:14 -
Have a blessed and beautiful Lord's Day!
