Shabby Acorns and Leaves

Image
Hello, my sweet and lovely friends! I hope you are well on this very last day of August. Can you believe September is about to arrive? By all these lovely tokens September days are here, with summer's best of weather and autumn's best of cheer. - Helen Hunt Jackson - I am starting to add some autumn decor to my home and the other day I spent some time at my sewing machine creating these shabby fall accents. The acorn can easily be used as a mug rug. Here is what you will need  to make your own acorns and leaves, sweet friends. Supplies: lace burlap trim scrap fabric fusible fleece Iron on a piece of fusible fleece to the backside of a piece of fabric that is about 8-inches in size. Sew strips of lace onto the right side of the fabric. Use the burlap trim for the acorn top { I used three rows of burlap } This is what you will have  once the lace and burlap has been sewn onto the fabric. . . Here is the acorn template, my friends. Wonderful Grace Of Jesus

Image
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost but now am found, Was blind, but now, I see. T'was grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace, my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come. T'was grace that brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead us home. The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures. When we've been here ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, We've no less days to sing God's praise than when we've first begun. -  John Newton - This past Friday I attended the funeral service for my great uncle Spike. He served in the Marines when he was younger so his service was held at the Fort Logan cemetery. As I looked at the many, many headstones  of the men and women that served our country I was overwhelmed with an incredible sense of gratitu...

INTENSITY. SKILL. TENACITY. The bodyguards of Elite Guardians Agency have it all. Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency,  stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident.  Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate,  only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target  of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business. Daniel might be concerned,  but he's not convinced that a bodyguard--and a female one at that--is necessary.  A new attack and his niece's urgings are enough to make him reconsider.  He and Katie must figure out who's behind the intimidation and threats-- before a would-be killer strikes again. My Thoughts Without Warning is the second book in the Elite Guardians series. You are more than welcome to read my review for the first book Always Watching by clicking here. "One more chapter..." She whispered hours ago

I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!  How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book!  When I have a house of my own,  I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library. - Jane Austen - Happy day to you, my friends! I hope your day is indeed happy. Today I thought I would show you some fabric bookmarks that I made after being inspired by Kelly-Anne from The Diary of a Country Girl and Elizabeth from The Daisy Fields These two delightful blogging friends of mine  made similar bookmarks around the same time and shared them on their blogs. When I saw them I knew I had to make a couple since I always have my nose buried in a book and I am always losing my bookmarks {{smiles}} Maybe by making some that are extra pretty I won't lose them. . .maybe. Books are the quietest and most constant of friends;  they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors,  and the most patient of teachers. - Charles William Eliot - Some books sh...

All Your Anxiety

Image
Is there a heart o'er bound by sorrow? If there a life weighed down by care? Come to the cross - each burden bearing, all your anxiety - leave it there. No other friend so keen to help you; no other friend so quick to hear; no other place to leave your burden; no other one to hear your prayer. Come then at once - delay no longer! Heed His entreaty kind and sweet; you need no fear a disappointment - You shall find peace at the mercy seat. Chorus All your anxiety, all your care, bring to the mercy seat - leave it there; never a burden He cannot bear, never a friend like Jesus! - Edward Henry Joy - The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety. - George Muller - Casting all your care upon him;  for he careth for you. - 1 Peter 5:7 - You cannot read the book of Psalms without sensing the deep cloud of emotional gloom experienced at times even by King David, this man after God's own heart. "Why art thou cast down, O my soul?...

A Heart Most Certain - Book Review

Image
While Lydia King's reasons for joining the Teaville Moral Society  might be suspect to some members, her heart is in the right place.  Because of her father's debts and her mother's persistent illness,  her best chance at a secure future and curing her mother  is to impress the politician courting her.  Her first task--to ask the town's wealthiest man to donate-- seems simple enough . . . until he refuses. Despite appearances, Nicholas Lowe wants to help others,  but prefers to keep his charity private.  When Lydia proves persistent, they agree to a bargain,  but Nicholas still intends to do things his own way.  Neither predicts what they'll learn about true charity  or foresee the complications their actions will bring to the town,  forcing Lydia to decide where her beliefs and heart truly align. My Thoughts A Heart Most Certain has found a very special place in my heart. This book is one of the best that I have read this year an...

Frilly Little Pumpkins

Image
I never met a pumpkin I didn't like. - Unknown - Happy day, my friends! Last Friday I had a giveaway for the Organic Rosemary Sea Salt made by Cecilia and today I will be announcing the winner. . . at the end of this post {{smiles}} * * * * * * * * * * It would appear the autumn bug bit me  as I have been dreaming of pumpkins, cardigans, scarves, and golden leaves. For the last week or so the mornings have had a fall chill in the air and I can smell the sweet scent of the season that is to come. Here in the mountains I have already seen some trees starting to change  from their luscious green to hues of yellow and orange. Its hard to believe how quickly summer has gone by, but I am anticipating the arrival of autumn. Each season holds such unique and glorious beauty. With the anticipation of autumn's arrival I have been making some shabby pumpkins. You know me, I like lots of lace and pearls {{smiles}} I thought I'd show you how I made these little darlings. . . I cut out...
